Job Description

Plan International Zimbabwe is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Remote Community Support Moderator to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role is designed for individuals who thrive in a flexible, remote work setting and are committed to upholding the values of child rights and gender equality within digital spaces. As a Community Support Moderator, you will be the heart of our online interactions, responsible for cultivating a safe, respectful, and engaging atmosphere across our various digital platforms. You will play a crucial role in monitoring discussions, responding to inquiries, identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns, and ensuring that all community guidelines are strictly adhered to. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to Plan International’s mission by facilitating meaningful dialogue, providing support, and protecting our online community members, particularly children and young people. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to community management. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor online forums, social media groups, and other digital platforms for adherence to community guidelines and safeguarding policies.
- Engage actively with community members, responding to comments, questions, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
- Facilitate positive discussions and encourage constructive engagement on topics related to Plan International's work and advocacy.
- Identify, report, and escalate any content or behavior that violates community standards, including hate speech, harassment, and child safeguarding risks, following established protocols.
- Provide basic technical support and guidance to users experiencing issues with platform functionality.
- Collaborate with communications, programs, and safeguarding teams to ensure consistent messaging and effective issue resolution.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance community engagement and growth.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of community guidelines and moderation practices.
- Prepare regular reports on community activity, engagement metrics, and emerging trends or concerns.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in online community management or social media moderation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong understanding of online safety principles and child safeguarding best practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- High level of empathy, patience, and discretion.
- Proficiency in using various social media platforms and online communication tools.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations or in the humanitarian sector.
- Familiarity with community management software or analytics tools.
- Knowledge of local Zimbabwean languages (e.g., Shona, Ndebele) is an advantage.
- Understanding of digital trends and best practices for online engagement.
