Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Remote Government Relations Partner to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role is responsible for shaping and advancing Serco’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of the company with key governmental stakeholders across the UK. Working remotely, you will be instrumental in monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on Serco’s operations and strategic objectives, and developing proactive engagement strategies. You will build and maintain strong relationships with Members of Parliament, civil servants, local government officials, and relevant industry bodies. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the UK political landscape, public policy formation, and parliamentary processes. This role requires exceptional communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills, enabling you to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively. You will prepare briefing materials, policy submissions, and presentations for senior leadership, ensuring Serco’s interests are effectively represented in policy debates and decision-making processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies to support Serco's business objectives and policy priorities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative, regulatory, and political developments at national and local levels that may impact Serco's operations.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, productive relationships with key government officials, politicians, civil servants, and parliamentary advisers.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing documents, policy submissions, consultation responses, and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Serco at parliamentary committees, industry forums, and public policy events, advocating for the company's positions.
  • Advise internal teams on political risks and opportunities, helping to inform business development and operational strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, commercial, and operational teams, to ensure a coordinated approach to government engagement.
  • Manage and oversee external consultants or lobbying firms when necessary.
  • Identify and track emerging public policy issues relevant to Serco's sectors (e.g., health, transport, justice, defence).
  • Ensure all government relations activities comply with relevant ethical guidelines and legal requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or policy roles within the UK.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the UK political system, parliamentary procedures, and public policy-making processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues concisely and persuasively.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret legislation, policy documents, and political trends.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and networking abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to develop and implement effective advocacy plans.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using remote collaboration tools and technologies.
  • High degree of integrity and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Law, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience working within a government department, political office, or a large public sector-focused organization.
  • Specific knowledge of one or more of Serco's key sectors (e.g., healthcare policy, transport infrastructure, defence procurement).
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., Public Affairs Council, Chartered Institute of Public Relations).
