Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Remote Product Designer to join our dynamic team, focusing on cutting-edge mobile and connectivity solutions. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the design of innovative products that redefine user experiences across various platforms globally. As a Remote Product Designer at Qualcomm, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design process, from initial concept and in-depth user research to detailed wireframing, interactive prototyping, and final high-fidelity UI implementation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, software engineers, and other design specialists to translate complex technical requirements into intuitive, elegant, and highly user-centric designs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in crafting exceptional digital user experiences, a deep understanding of design thinking methodologies, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first work environment. You will be a relentless champion for user needs, advocate for design excellence at every stage, and contribute significantly to the visual and interactive language of our next-generation products. This role requires a self-starter who can manage their time effectively, communicate proactively across different time zones, and consistently deliver high-quality design solutions independently while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with a distributed team. Join us in shaping the future of connectivity and innovation from the comfort and convenience of your home office in Chula Vista, California.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive user research, including generative and evaluative studies such as interviews, usability testing, and data analysis, to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Develop detailed user flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for various digital products and features, ensuring optimal user experience and aesthetic quality.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers to define product vision, strategy, and detailed requirements, translating business goals into design solutions.
  • Present and articulate design concepts, rationale, and user research findings clearly and persuasively to stakeholders at all levels, incorporating feedback effectively.
  • Iterate on designs based on user testing results, stakeholder feedback, and technical feasibility constraints, driving continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and contribute to our existing design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and adherence to brand guidelines across all product touchpoints.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging design tools, interaction patterns, and new technologies to continuously improve design processes and output.
  • Actively participate in design critiques, providing constructive feedback to peers and fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented design culture.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of demonstrable experience in product design, UX/UI design, or a similar role focused on digital products.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Principle, InVision).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a breadth of work in digital product design, including mobile applications, web platforms, and potentially embedded systems.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, human factors, usability heuristics, and accessibility best practices (WCAG).
  • Extensive experience conducting and synthesizing user research, encompassing both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Excellent visual design skills with a keen eye for typography, color theory, layout composition, iconography, and overall aesthetic harmony.
  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex design decisions and technical concepts effectively and persuasively to diverse audiences, both written and verbally.
  • Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment, participating in sprints and contributing to iterative product development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience designing for complex technical products or platforms, particularly within the wireless, IoT, telecommunications, or semiconductor industries.
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks) to better understand implementation constraints and possibilities.
  • Experience with motion graphics and animation principles for enhancing user experiences and micro-interactions.
  • Proven track record of mentoring junior designers, leading design initiatives, or contributing to design thought leadership.
  • Understanding of data visualization principles for presenting complex information effectively.
