As a Remote Virtual Librarian, you will be the cornerstone of our digital information services, responsible for curating, managing, and facilitating access to a vast array of online resources. Your role is pivotal in ensuring our users can effortlessly navigate our extensive digital library, discover relevant materials, and successfully achieve their learning and research objectives.

You will engage directly with users through various virtual platforms, including live chat, video conferencing, and email, providing expert guidance, conducting in-depth research assistance, and fostering a vibrant and supportive online learning environment. Your day-to-day will involve everything from developing intuitive navigation structures for our digital collections to leading engaging virtual workshops on research methodologies, citation management, and effective database utilization. We expect our Virtual Librarians to stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in information science, constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance user experience and resource accessibility. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive virtual reference and research assistance to users via chat, email, and video conferencing.
  • Curate, organize, and maintain digital collections, ensuring discoverability and accessibility.
  • Develop and deliver virtual workshops and tutorials on information literacy, research tools, and database usage.
  • Evaluate and recommend new digital resources, databases, and technologies to enhance library services.
  • Assist with cataloging and metadata creation for digital assets.
  • Troubleshoot user access issues for online resources and digital platforms.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in library science, digital librarianship, and educational technology.
  • Collaborate with content creators and educators to integrate library resources into learning programs.

Required Skills

  • Master's in Library Science (MLS) or Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a library or information services setting, with a focus on digital resources.
  • Proficiency with virtual reference platforms and online research tools.
  • Strong understanding of cataloging standards, metadata schemas, and digital asset management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on virtual interaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical aptitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas or Moodle.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG).
