Key Responsibilities
- Generate original news leads, develop story ideas, and pitch compelling content for daily and weekly publication/broadcast.
- Conduct thorough research, investigations, and interviews with diverse sources, including community members, officials, and experts.
- Report live from the field on breaking news, public events, and planned assignments, often under challenging conditions.
- Write clear, concise, accurate, and engaging news articles, reports, and scripts tailored for various platforms (online, print, video).
- Verify facts, data, and sources meticulously to ensure the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with editors, photographers, videographers, and other team members to enhance storytelling.
- Utilise social media and digital tools for news gathering, dissemination, and audience engagement.
- Attend press conferences, public meetings, and court proceedings as required.
- Adhere strictly to media law, ethical guidelines, and company editorial policies.
- Maintain an updated contact list of sources and community stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Reporter or Journalist, ideally with field reporting exposure.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with a strong command of English grammar and style.
- Demonstrable research and investigative skills.
- Strong interviewing and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Understanding of media law, journalistic ethics, and libel laws.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Proficiency in using digital newsgathering tools, content management systems, and social media for reporting.
- Valid UK driving license and access to a car for field assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Previous experience reporting on local news or specific beats within West Yorkshire.
- Familiarity with multimedia reporting (e.g., video editing, audio recording).
