You will be instrumental in identifying leads, conducting interviews, gathering facts, and crafting accurate, engaging, and impactful news content across various platforms, including digital, print, and broadcast. Key Responsibilities

  • Generate original news leads, develop story ideas, and pitch compelling content for daily and weekly publication/broadcast.
  • Conduct thorough research, investigations, and interviews with diverse sources, including community members, officials, and experts.
  • Report live from the field on breaking news, public events, and planned assignments, often under challenging conditions.
  • Write clear, concise, accurate, and engaging news articles, reports, and scripts tailored for various platforms (online, print, video).
  • Verify facts, data, and sources meticulously to ensure the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, photographers, videographers, and other team members to enhance storytelling.
  • Utilise social media and digital tools for news gathering, dissemination, and audience engagement.
  • Attend press conferences, public meetings, and court proceedings as required.
  • Adhere strictly to media law, ethical guidelines, and company editorial policies.
  • Maintain an updated contact list of sources and community stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Reporter or Journalist, ideally with field reporting exposure.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with a strong command of English grammar and style.
  • Demonstrable research and investigative skills.
  • Strong interviewing and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Understanding of media law, journalistic ethics, and libel laws.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using digital newsgathering tools, content management systems, and social media for reporting.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a car for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Previous experience reporting on local news or specific beats within West Yorkshire.
  • Familiarity with multimedia reporting (e.g., video editing, audio recording).
  • Portfolio showcasing impactful news stories and field reports.
