Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Administer prescribed respiratory treatments and therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, chest physiotherapy, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor, record, and evaluate patient responses to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Manage and maintain respiratory equipment, ensuring proper function and calibration.
  • Participate in emergency response situations, including code blue and rapid response teams, providing advanced airway management and ventilation support.
  • Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and timely in electronic health records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., JCAHO, HIPAA).

Required Skills

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC
  • Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Michigan
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting respiratory care equipment
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related field
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
  • Specialized experience in ICU, NICU, or pediatric respiratory care
  • Membership in professional organizations like the AARC
