Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill in Mississauga is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry-Level Restaurant Prep Station Assistant to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with little to no prior kitchen experience to gain valuable hands-on training and grow within the hospitality industry. As a Prep Station Assistant, you will be crucial to our kitchen’s efficiency, ensuring our Line Cooks have everything they need to create our guests’ favourite dishes. You’ll be responsible for the initial stages of food preparation, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and contributing to the overall flow of our bustling kitchen. We’re seeking someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, a quick learner, and thrives in a team-oriented setting. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Line Cooks with various food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients (vegetables, proteins, etc.) according to Jack Astor's recipes and standards.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized prep station throughout the shift, adhering to all food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP, provincial health codes).
- Monitor inventory levels of prepared ingredients and communicate needs to the kitchen leadership to ensure adequate stock.
- Receive and properly store deliveries, rotating stock to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
- Support the kitchen team with general cleaning duties, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste.
- Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as slicers, blenders, and food processors, under supervision.
- Learn and memorize Jack Astor's menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, assisting colleagues as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Basic understanding of kitchen operations and desire to learn.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- A positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a kitchen or food service setting (even non-professional) is a plus.
- Valid Food Handler's Certificate for Ontario.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Enthusiasm for food and cooking.
