Mountain View Lodge is actively seeking a dedicated, energetic, and highly motivated Restaurant Steward to join our esteemed hospitality team in Ha Sekake, Qacha’s Nek. As a pivotal Restaurant Steward, you will play an absolutely crucial role behind the scenes, directly impacting the seamless flow of our front-of-house operations by providing essential, timely, and effective support. Your core responsibilities will include the meticulous washing, sanitizing, and proper storage of all dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and glassware. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in maintaining the pristine cleanliness and hygiene of the entire kitchen and dining areas, consistently adhering to stringent health and safety regulations. You will also assist proactively with the diligent setup and efficient breakdown of dining events, ensuring every detail is perfect. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate industrial dishwashing equipment efficiently and ensure all dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and glassware are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, dried, and properly stored according to lodge standards.
  • Maintain the impeccable cleanliness and hygiene of the entire kitchen area, including floors, walls, work surfaces, storage units, and kitchen equipment, strictly adhering to all health and safety regulations and internal protocols.
  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, under direct supervision, ensuring efficiency and safety.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of impeccably clean crockery, cutlery, and glassware are consistently available for all service periods, anticipating needs and proactively replenishing.
  • Monitor and manage waste disposal systems, ensuring proper segregation of waste (recyclables, compost, general waste) and timely removal of trash from all kitchen and dining areas.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the restaurant and bar team with the diligent setup and efficient breakdown of dining areas, including arranging tables, chairs, linens, and preparing for special events or daily service.
  • Promptly report any equipment malfunctions, breakages, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to the kitchen manager or supervisor to ensure immediate action.
  • Adhere strictly to all lodge policies, health and safety guidelines, and stringent food hygiene standards, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with all kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery and a cohesive team effort.
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, detergents, and other consumables, informing management proactively when restocking is needed to prevent shortages.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of proven experience in a similar Steward or Kitchen Porter role within a reputable restaurant, hotel, or catering environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate industrial dishwashing machines and other basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Solid knowledge and practical understanding of hygiene and sanitation standards, with familiarity with HACCP principles being a significant advantage.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to maintaining pristine cleanliness and organization.
  • Ability to work efficiently, quickly, and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure culinary environment.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Physical stamina and capability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items (up to 25kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a key part of a diverse team.
  • Basic understanding and ability to communicate effectively in English for team coordination and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Formal certification in food hygiene, safety, or related hospitality training.
  • Previous experience working specifically in a lodge or resort setting.
  • Proficiency in Sesotho to communicate effectively with local staff and guests.
