Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Risk Officer specializing in Compliance and Monitoring to join our robust Risk Management Department at our Port Louis office, situated within the vibrant financial hub near Le Caudan Waterfront. This pivotal role is essential for upholding SBM Bank’s unwavering commitment to regulatory adherence, sound risk practices, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting on various compliance risks, ensuring that our operations align with both internal policies and external regulatory frameworks established by local and international authorities. You will work closely with different business units across the bank, providing expert guidance on compliance matters, performing regular risk assessments, and contributing to the development and implementation of effective risk mitigation strategies. The role demands proactive engagement with new regulations, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable business processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the bank's compliance policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular compliance monitoring activities and risk assessments across various business units to identify potential areas of non-compliance.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements (e.g., AML/CFT, Data Protection, Consumer Protection) and ensure the bank's policies and practices are updated accordingly.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on compliance findings, risk exposures, and mitigation efforts for senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to business units on compliance-related matters, new product development, and operational changes.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of compliance training programs for employees.
  • Investigate and resolve compliance breaches or incidents, recommending corrective actions.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities during inspections and provide necessary documentation and information.
  • Participate in risk committee meetings and contribute to the overall risk management framework of the bank.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in risk management, compliance, or internal audit within the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of local and international banking regulations (e.g., Banking Act, AML/CFT legislations, Data Protection Act).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), or a similar compliance/risk qualification.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with compliance software and risk management systems.
