Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to oversee all health and safety aspects of our construction projects located within and around Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) plans and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Conduct daily safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses on construction sites, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
- Provide comprehensive safety training to all site personnel, including new employee orientation, toolbox talks, and specialized safety courses.
- Ensure all plant, machinery, and equipment are regularly inspected, certified, and maintained to meet safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities, including inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Liaise with relevant authorities, contractors, and subcontractors on all matters pertaining to occupational health and safety.
- Promote a strong safety culture among all employees, encouraging proactive participation and adherence to safety protocols.
- Prepare and submit regular safety performance reports to project management and senior leadership.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer in a construction environment, preferably within large-scale projects.
- In-depth knowledge of local and international occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OSHA, ILO conventions).
- Strong understanding of construction site hazards and risk mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working on projects within an airport or similarly regulated environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and quality management systems (ISO 9001).
