Key Responsibilities
- Assist in safe navigation and steering of the vessel under the direction of the officer on watch.
- Perform deck duties including mooring, anchoring, cargo operations, and general seamanship.
- Conduct routine maintenance and upkeep of the vessel, including painting, chipping, cleaning, and equipment checks.
- Participate in emergency drills and respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, environmental protection policies, and company procedures.
- Operate and maintain various deck machinery and equipment.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and securing cargo and provisions.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities and incidents as required.
- Support senior crew members in all aspects of vessel operations and crew welfare.
- Contribute to a positive and cooperative working environment onboard.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in basic seamanship and navigation.
- Experience with deck machinery operation (winches, cranes, etc.).
- Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and procedures (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude.
- Valid STCW certification (Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft, Medical First Aid, etc.).
- Ability to work effectively in diverse weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced STCW certifications (e.g., Able Seaman, Efficient Deck Hand).
- Experience on various vessel types (e.g., cargo, tugs, passenger vessels).
- Familiarity with GMDSS general operator certificate (GOC) or restricted operator certificate (ROC).
- Basic knowledge of engine room operations for emergency assistance.
- A clean record of sea service and demonstrable commitment to safety.
