Are you a seasoned mariner with a passion for the open water and a meticulous eye for detail? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proficient Sailor for Navigation & Crew Assistance to join a dynamic team operating out of the vibrant maritime hub of Bishopston, Bristol. This pivotal role involves contributing to the safe and efficient operation of various vessels, ensuring smooth voyages and impeccable crew support. You will be instrumental in executing critical navigation duties, maintaining onboard systems, and upholding the highest standards of safety and maritime professionalism.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in daily vessel operations, from pre-departure checks and intricate mooring procedures to performing continuous lookout duties and assisting the Captain or Officer of the Watch with navigation planning and execution. Beyond operational duties, you will be responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the vessel, including routine cleaning, painting, chipping, and ensuring all deck machinery and equipment are in prime working order.

Safety is paramount in all our operations. You will actively participate in safety drills, emergency preparedness, and ensure strict adherence to all maritime regulations and company safety policies. This includes understanding and implementing fire prevention, man overboard procedures, and first aid protocols. The role also requires excellent teamwork and communication skills, as you will be working closely with fellow crew members to foster a cooperative and efficient onboard atmosphere. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with vessel navigation, including maintaining accurate logbooks, chart plotting, and radar monitoring.
  • Perform lookout duties to ensure continuous situational awareness and identify potential hazards.
  • Execute safe mooring, anchoring, and docking procedures.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and upkeep of the vessel's exterior and interior, including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Operate and maintain deck machinery, rigging, and safety equipment.
  • Actively participate in safety drills, emergency response, and adherence to all maritime safety protocols.
  • Assist in loading, securing, and unloading cargo or provisions as required.
  • Provide general assistance to the Captain, First Mate, and other crew members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations, environmental protection policies, and company procedures.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment onboard.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in seamanship, including knot tying, rope work, and rigging.
  • Experience with safe vessel handling, mooring, and anchoring techniques.
  • Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine vessel maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina for demanding marine environments.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic knowledge of navigation instruments and chart reading.
  • Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
  • Valid ENG1 Medical Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Experience on various types of vessels (e.g., commercial, passenger, private yachts).
  • Knowledge of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) operations.
  • Proficiency in operating small craft and tenders.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with electronic navigation systems (GPS, ECDIS).
