Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sailor – Navigation & Crew Assistance to join our esteemed maritime network, offering an exceptional opportunity within the vibrant Cardiff Bay area. This pivotal role involves contributing to the safe and efficient operation of various vessels, upholding the highest standards of seamanship and safety. As a Sailor, you will be integral to the daily functioning of our client’s operations, engaging in everything from essential navigation support to critical vessel maintenance, ensuring every journey is smooth and secure.
This role requires a proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic environment, is adept at working as part of a close-knit team, and possesses a keen eye for detail. You will be responsible for assisting with bridge watchkeeping duties, performing routine checks and maintenance on marine equipment, and participating actively in all aspects of vessel upkeep. From rope work and anchoring to ensuring the vessel’s cleanliness and operational readiness, your contributions will be vital. Your commitment to safety, adherence to maritime regulations, and ability to respond effectively in various situations are paramount.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with vessel navigation, lookout, and watchkeeping duties as directed by the Officer of the Watch.
- Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of the vessel, including painting, cleaning, minor repairs, and rigging.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Participate actively in mooring, anchoring, and docking operations, handling lines and fendering.
- Support cargo handling operations, including securing, loading, and unloading procedures when applicable.
- Assist with emergency drills and response procedures, including fire fighting, damage control, and man overboard situations.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of all vessel areas, including deck, superstructure, and crew accommodation.
- Operate and maintain essential deck machinery, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Contribute to a positive, cooperative, and respectful onboard environment, fostering strong teamwork.
- Undergo continuous training and professional development to enhance maritime skills and certifications.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Sailor, Deckhand, or similar maritime operational role.
- Basic knowledge of seamanship, navigation principles, knot tying, and rope work.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fundamental understanding of maritime safety procedures and emergency equipment.
- Valid STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) basic safety training certification.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, for clear communication onboard.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid ENG1 Medical Certificate or equivalent maritime medical fitness certificate.
- Experience with specific types of vessels (e.g., commercial ferries, passenger boats, tugs, or cargo ships).
- Additional relevant maritime certifications (e.g., Efficient Deckhand, Helmsman, or specific vessel endorsements).
- Familiarity with local Cardiff Bay waters, tides, and navigational regulations.
