Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school on designated routes and schedules during early morning shifts, ensuring punctuality.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical or safety issues immediately to the maintenance team.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, student ridership, and any incidents encountered.
- Ensure the cleanliness and good order of the bus interior daily, providing a comfortable environment for students.
- Strictly adhere to all traffic laws, school district policies, and transportation regulations to guarantee maximum safety.
- Manage student behavior on the bus in a calm, consistent, and appropriate manner, following established guidelines and promoting respect.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff, parents, and transportation coordinators regarding route changes, delays, or student concerns.
- Be prepared for emergency situations, following established protocols to ensure student safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist students with special needs, including proper use of accessibility equipment, securement devices, and providing gentle support as required.
Required Skills
- Valid UK driving license with PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) entitlement (Category D or D1).
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
- Clean driving record with no major endorsements or recent accidents.
- Excellent knowledge of Fairwater, Cardiff roads, traffic patterns, and local school locations.
- Strong commitment to safety, strict adherence to regulations, and defensive driving practices.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
