Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a diligent and dedicated School Cleaner & Maintenance Support professional to join our team in Pipeline, Nairobi. This pivotal role ensures our educational facilities are consistently clean, safe, and well-maintained, providing an optimal learning environment for students and a comfortable workspace for staff. You will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning duties, as well as providing essential basic maintenance support to ensure the smooth operation of school premises. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently while being a part of a larger team committed to excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and dusting all surfaces in classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies throughout the day.
  • Empty waste bins and transport trash to designated disposal areas.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions.
  • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels as needed.
  • Report any major repairs, damages, or safety hazards to the facility manager promptly.
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, tightening loose fixtures, or unclogging drains.
  • Assist with moving furniture or equipment as required for school events or reconfigurations.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is properly maintained, stored, and in good working order.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment.
  • Support ground keeping efforts, including light outdoor cleaning around entrances and pathways.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with staff and students.
  • Participate in deep cleaning projects during school holidays or as scheduled.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a cleaner or janitor, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and ability to use them safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with standard cleaning equipment (e.g., mops, vacuums, scrubbers).
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting (up to 25kg), bending, standing for extended periods.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety procedures, especially in a school environment.
  • Good communication skills and a cooperative attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary school certificate or equivalent.
  • Certification in cleaning services or basic maintenance.
  • Experience with minor repairs and facility upkeep.
  • Residency within Pipeline, Embakasi, or surrounding areas.
  • First Aid training is a plus.
