Job Description
Stellenbosch University is seeking a dedicated and thorough School Cleaner to join our Facilities Management team for the morning shift. This pivotal role involves ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall presentability of our academic buildings, administrative offices, common areas, and restrooms before the main influx of students and staff. You will be instrumental in creating a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment conducive to learning and working across our diverse campus. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and dusting surfaces (desks, shelves, windowsills, ledges).
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and ablution facilities, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and replenishing supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels) regularly.
- Empty waste bins and transport waste to designated disposal areas, ensuring proper waste segregation.
- Clean internal windows, glass partitions, and doors, maintaining a streak-free finish.
- Spot clean walls, doors, and other surfaces as needed to remove scuffs and marks.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained, stored correctly, and report any malfunctions or repair needs promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and procedures, including the safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Report any damages, maintenance needs, or safety hazards observed during duties to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with special cleaning projects or event clean-up as required, ensuring flexibility and teamwork.
Required Skills
- Reliability and punctuality for early morning shifts.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting (up to 15kg), pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
