Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive School Grounds Assistant to maintain the outdoor areas of our educational facilities in Heatherglen, Spruce Grove. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily litter control and waste removal across all school grounds.
  • Execute regular lawn care duties, including mowing, trimming, edging, and fertilizing.
  • Maintain garden beds, shrubbery, and trees through weeding, pruning, and planting.
  • Assist with irrigation system checks, minor repairs, and adjustments to ensure proper watering.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers).
  • Conduct seasonal tasks such as snow removal, de-icing pathways, and salting in winter months.
  • Monitor grounds for potential hazards or maintenance issues and report them promptly.
  • Perform minor outdoor repairs to fences, benches, play structures, and pathways.
  • Ensure all outdoor areas comply with safety standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Support special event setups and take-downs, including moving outdoor furniture or equipment.
  • Maintain tool sheds and storage areas in a clean, organized, and secure manner.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related outdoor maintenance field.
  • Proficiency in operating various grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, leaf blowers).
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, lawn maintenance, and basic horticulture practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent observational skills to identify and address maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a school or institutional environment.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and minor repair techniques.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
