Job Description
We are seeking a vigilant, dedicated, and highly dependable Security Guard to join our team at the Lamu Port facility. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the safety and security of KPA personnel, assets, and premises, adhering strictly to national and international port security guidelines, including the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The Security Guard will be responsible for proactively preventing unauthorized access, detecting suspicious activities, and responding effectively to security incidents. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to act decisively under pressure. You will be a vital part of our operational framework, ensuring a secure environment that supports seamless port operations and protects Kenya’s maritime interests. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of assigned areas within the Lamu Port facility, including buildings, perimeters, and restricted zones.
- Monitor surveillance equipment (CCTV) to detect and respond to any security breaches or unauthorized activities.
- Control access points for personnel, vehicles, and cargo, ensuring proper authorization and adherence to KPA security protocols.
- Inspect vehicles, packages, and individuals entering and exiting the port premises as per established procedures.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, and other security incidents.
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports on observations, incidents, and daily activities.
- Enforce KPA rules and regulations, ensuring compliance by staff, visitors, and contractors.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other security personnel during investigations or emergency situations.
- Provide assistance and direction to visitors, ensuring a safe and orderly flow within the port.
- Conduct basic fire prevention and response duties, including knowledge of fire extinguishers and evacuation procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (1+ years) in a security role, preferably in a port, industrial, or critical infrastructure setting.
- Formal security training certificate from a recognized institution (e.g., PSRA certification, or equivalent).
- Experience with CCTV monitoring systems and access control technologies.
- Knowledge of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
- Basic computer literacy for report generation and communication.
- A valid Kenyan driving license (Classes B, C, or E).
