Job Description

Are you an exceptionally detail-oriented and skilled technician with a passion for precision electronics and advanced component handling? ZESA Holdings (Pvt) Ltd – Kariba Power Station is seeking a dedicated Semiconductor Fabrication & Precision Electronics Technician to join our critical maintenance and operational team. This unique role, while not in traditional semiconductor manufacturing, demands the same meticulous attention, expertise in working with micro-components, and understanding of sensitive electronic assemblies that define the semiconductor industry. You will be instrumental in the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of sophisticated industrial control systems, power electronics, sensors, and communication equipment that are vital to the continuous and efficient operation of the Kariba Power Station. This includes working with Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), integrated circuits, specialized sensors, and control modules that rely on advanced semiconductor technology. Your expertise will directly ensure the reliability and optimal performance of our hydroelectric generation assets, upholding the highest standards of safety and operational integrity. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and calibration of sensitive electronic components, control systems, and power electronics within the Kariba Power Station.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults in industrial electronic systems, including PLCs, SCADA components, sensor arrays, and communication modules, often at the component level.
  • Execute precision soldering, desoldering, and rework on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and other electronic assemblies, ensuring integrity and functionality.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers) to accurately identify and resolve electronic system anomalies.
  • Adhere strictly to cleanroom-like practices and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols when handling sensitive electronic components to prevent damage.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, component replacements, and system configurations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to implement system upgrades, modifications, and perform root cause analysis for electronic failures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, operational procedures, and environmental standards within the power station environment.
  • Participate in continuous professional development to stay abreast of advancements in industrial electronics and control technology.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in electronic circuit analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in precision soldering and rework techniques (SMT and through-hole).
  • Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, block diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with various test and measurement equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs).
  • Knowledge of ESD control procedures and clean work practices.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Safety-conscious and ability to follow strict operational protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in industrial electronics or control systems.
  • Previous experience working with power generation equipment, industrial automation, or critical infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Experience with fiber optics and industrial communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes for electronic assemblies.
