Job Description

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Semiconductor Fabrication Technician to join our specialized electronics team in Buhera, Manicaland Province. While our primary focus is telecommunications, this unique role is crucial for ensuring the integrity, performance, and longevity of the intricate micro-components and sensitive electronic systems that underpin our advanced network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for precision assembly, diagnostics, repair, and potential custom fabrication of specialized electronic parts and circuit boards in a controlled environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform precision assembly, testing, and calibration of sensitive electronic components and sub-assemblies for telecommunications equipment.
  • Conduct detailed diagnostics and troubleshooting of circuit boards and electronic modules using specialized tools and test equipment.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment for micro-component handling, soldering, bonding, and testing in a clean, controlled workshop environment.
  • Adhere strictly to clean environment protocols and electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety measures to prevent contamination and damage to sensitive materials.
  • Execute repairs and rework on electronic components, ensuring optimal functionality and longevity.
  • Assist in the development and modification of specialized electronic parts or prototypes as required for network infrastructure enhancements.
  • Document all fabrication, testing, and repair procedures meticulously, maintaining accurate records for quality control and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies within the work area.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in precision electronic assembly and component handling.
  • Strong understanding of circuit board layouts, schematics, and electronic component functions.
  • Proficiency in using precision hand tools, soldering irons, and rework stations.
  • Experience with electronic testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers).
  • Knowledge of cleanroom or controlled environment protocols and ESD safety.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience in a role requiring high-precision assembly or maintenance of sensitive electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure.
  • Certification in IPC standards (e.g., IPC J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721).
