Job Description
We are seeking a highly passionate and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator to join our dedicated team in Niddrie, Edinburgh. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic development of SEN policy and provision across the educational setting.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and review process for students with Special Educational Needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Provide guidance and support to teachers and support staff on differentiated learning strategies and inclusive practices.
- Liaise effectively with parents/carers to ensure a collaborative approach to student support.
- Work closely with external agencies, including educational psychologists, speech therapists, and social services.
- Manage the SEN budget and resources efficiently to maximise impact for students.
- Keep up-to-date with national and local SEN legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Organise and deliver professional development for staff on SEN-related topics.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to statutory reporting requirements.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an SEN Coordinator or in a similar leadership role within an educational setting.
- Thorough understanding of SEN code of practice and relevant legislation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement effective SEN strategies and provisions.
- Excellent organisational and administrative abilities.
- A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with a diverse range of special educational needs.
- Proficiency in using educational management systems for student data and planning.
- Understanding of the Scottish educational system (CfE).
