Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to join our team as an Entry Level SEN Support Worker in the Masonville area of London, Ontario. This is a unique opportunity for those passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN). As an Entry Level SEN Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing one-on-one and group support to students, helping them to access education, develop essential life skills, and achieve their personal best. Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with a range of special educational needs, under the guidance of lead staff.
- Assist students in understanding and completing classroom tasks, adapting materials as necessary to meet individual learning styles.
- Implement strategies outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to support academic, social, and emotional development.
- Help foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing regular feedback to teachers and other professionals.
- Support students with personal care needs (where required and appropriate training provided), ensuring dignity and respect.
- Encourage independent learning and social interaction among students.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain accurate records of student support and progress.
- Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A genuine passion for working with children and young adults with special educational needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new strategies and environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (voluntary or paid) working with children or young people
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Knowledge of various special educational needs and support strategies (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities)
- Relevant post-secondary education or courses in education, social work, child development, or a related field
