Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access the curriculum.
  • Assist teachers in preparing and adapting learning materials to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other support strategies under the guidance of teaching staff and SENCOs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment, promoting student independence and self-esteem.
  • Support students with personal care needs (if required and appropriate to the role), ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and contributing to assessments.
  • Assist with behavior management strategies, ensuring a calm and productive classroom atmosphere.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/carers, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Adhere strictly to all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the welfare and safety of all students.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional patience and empathy for children and young adults with diverse needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.

  • Understanding and commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with children or young people, particularly those with SEN.
  • A relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or Health and Social Care.
  • Knowledge of various Special Educational Needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH).
  • Basic First Aid certification.
