Are you a seasoned data professional with a passion for driving data excellence and integrity? Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Governance Specialist to join our dynamic team in Mutare. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in establishing, implementing, and maintaining our enterprise-wide data governance framework. You will be responsible for defining and enforcing data policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of data quality and stewardship across the organization. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Define and enforce data quality rules and metrics, monitoring and reporting on data quality performance.
  • Lead initiatives for metadata management, master data management, and data cataloging.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure adherence to data privacy regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR principles) and other relevant industry standards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data governance best practices, providing guidance and support to business units.
  • Facilitate data stewardship committees and forums, fostering collaboration and accountability for data assets.
  • Design and deliver training programs to enhance data literacy and promote data governance awareness across the organization.
  • Conduct regular data audits and assessments to identify gaps in data governance and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Drive the implementation of data governance tools and technologies to automate processes and improve efficiency.
  • Provide expert advice on data strategy, data architecture, and data analytics initiatives to ensure data integrity and usability.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles, preferably in a large enterprise.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive data governance frameworks and policies.
  • Strong understanding of data lifecycle management, metadata management, and master data management (MDM) principles and best practices.
  • Proficiency with SQL and hands-on experience working with various database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with industry-leading data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM InfoSphere).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to translate complex data concepts into understandable terms for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities, including the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Data Governance Professional – CDGP, Certified Information Privacy Professional – CIPP/E, Data Governance & Stewardship Professional – DGSP).
  • Prior experience in the telecommunications or financial services industry with a strong understanding of industry-specific data challenges.
  • In-depth knowledge of data privacy regulations specific to Zimbabwe or the broader African region.
