Job Description
Are you a seasoned data professional with a passion for driving data excellence and integrity? Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Governance Specialist to join our dynamic team in Mutare. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in establishing, implementing, and maintaining our enterprise-wide data governance framework. You will be responsible for defining and enforcing data policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of data quality and stewardship across the organization. This position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of data lifecycle management, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with various business units and technical teams. You will lead initiatives to improve data quality, manage metadata, and support the development of data literacy programs. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Define and enforce data quality rules and metrics, monitoring and reporting on data quality performance.
- Lead initiatives for metadata management, master data management, and data cataloging.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure adherence to data privacy regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR principles) and other relevant industry standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert on data governance best practices, providing guidance and support to business units.
- Facilitate data stewardship committees and forums, fostering collaboration and accountability for data assets.
- Design and deliver training programs to enhance data literacy and promote data governance awareness across the organization.
- Conduct regular data audits and assessments to identify gaps in data governance and recommend remediation strategies.
- Drive the implementation of data governance tools and technologies to automate processes and improve efficiency.
- Provide expert advice on data strategy, data architecture, and data analytics initiatives to ensure data integrity and usability.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles, preferably in a large enterprise.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive data governance frameworks and policies.
- Strong understanding of data lifecycle management, metadata management, and master data management (MDM) principles and best practices.
- Proficiency with SQL and hands-on experience working with various database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Familiarity with industry-leading data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM InfoSphere).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to translate complex data concepts into understandable terms for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities, including the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Data Governance Professional – CDGP, Certified Information Privacy Professional – CIPP/E, Data Governance & Stewardship Professional – DGSP).
- Prior experience in the telecommunications or financial services industry with a strong understanding of industry-specific data challenges.
- In-depth knowledge of data privacy regulations specific to Zimbabwe or the broader African region.
