Job Description
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior IT Operations Specialist to join our dedicated team in Murambinda, Manicaland Province. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless, efficient, and secure operation of our IT infrastructure, systems, and services that support our expansive network and business operations in the region. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management, monitoring, and maintenance of servers, networks, databases, and critical applications, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
You will play a key role in incident management, problem resolution, and implementing preventative measures to minimize service disruptions. Furthermore, you will contribute to capacity planning, system upgrades, and the enforcement of IT policies and procedures, directly impacting the reliability and integrity of our services that connect communities across Manicaland. Key Responsibilities
- Manage, monitor, and maintain critical IT infrastructure including servers (physical and virtual), networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), storage systems, and operating systems.
- Oversee the performance, availability, and security of all IT systems and applications through proactive monitoring and rapid response to alerts.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex IT incidents and problems efficiently, minimizing downtime and impact on business operations.
- Implement and manage system backups, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity procedures to ensure data integrity and service resilience.
- Perform routine system administration tasks, including user account management, access control, patch management, and software deployments.
- Collaborate with other IT teams (e.g., Network Operations, Development, Security) to ensure integrated and secure service delivery.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT systems, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical IT systems as required.
- Assist in the planning, testing, and implementation of new IT solutions, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
- Ensure adherence to IT security policies, compliance standards, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior IT operations staff when necessary.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (5+ years) in IT operations, system administration, or network administration.
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems.
- Proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and networking concepts.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with database administration (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Solid understanding of IT security principles and best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues methodically and effectively.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA, CCNA, ITIL Foundation).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) tools and processes.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
- Experience in a telecommunications environment.
