Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our robust technical team, specifically supporting our vital infrastructure in the Manicaland Province, with a key focus on the Murambinda growth point. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Econet’s complex and critical network infrastructure. This role demands a deep understanding of telecommunications networks, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of our network, directly impacting the quality of service for millions of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain complex network solutions, including LAN, WAN, wireless, data center, and cloud interconnectivity for optimal performance and scalability.
- Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and reliability of services.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for advanced network incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions across various network layers (L1-L7).
- Develop and enforce network security policies, configure firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems to protect critical infrastructure.
- Manage and optimize routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching technologies (VLANs, STP), and MPLS environments.
- Participate in project planning and execution, leading network infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and deployments from conception to completion.
- Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Mentor junior network engineers, providing guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to foster team growth and capability.
- Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies, hardware, and software solutions to enhance network efficiency, security, and service delivery.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical network incidents.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in network engineering within a large-scale enterprise or service provider environment.
- Expertise in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining networking equipment from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Huawei).
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching technologies (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel), and QoS.
- Proven experience with network security principles, including firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto), VPNs (IPSec, SSL VPN), and access control lists.
- Proficiency in network monitoring, management, and diagnostic tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues under pressure.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, or HCIP. CCIE/JNCIE certification is highly advantageous.
- Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) concepts and technologies.
- Scripting skills for network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Familiarity with cloud networking platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and best practices for IT service management.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
