Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Specialist to join our dynamic team in Bulawayo. This pivotal role involves the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of TelOne’s critical network infrastructure. As a Senior Network Specialist, you will be instrumental in ensuring the high availability, security, and performance of our extensive network, which supports millions of users and critical national services. You will be responsible for resolving complex network issues, leading network projects, and mentoring junior staff. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, configure, and troubleshoot complex network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Manage and maintain network security solutions, including intrusion detection/prevention systems and access control lists.
- Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and reliability.
- Lead network upgrade and expansion projects from conception to completion, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedural guides.
- Provide expert-level support for escalated network issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate network solutions with servers, applications, and security systems.
- Mentor and train junior network staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous professional development.
- Stay abreast of emerging network technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
- Manage relationships with network vendors and service providers, ensuring adherence to SLAs and optimizing service delivery.
Required Skills
- Proven experience with Cisco and Juniper networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls).
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS protocols.
- Strong understanding of network security principles and technologies (VPN, IPSec, SSL-VPN, NGFW).
- Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix).
- Experience with VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and other Layer 2 technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud networking platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with scripting for network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Knowledge of wireless networking technologies and standards.
