Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer to join our dynamic and growing technology team in Masvingo, Masvingo Province. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and maintenance of our core infrastructure and platform services that power Econet’s extensive suite of digital products and telecommunication solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring the scalability, reliability, security, and performance of our systems, working closely with software development, operations, and product teams.
This position requires a deep understanding of cloud technologies, infrastructure-as-code principles, CI/CD pipelines, and robust automation practices. You will drive the adoption of best practices, mentor junior engineers, and contribute significantly to our architectural roadmap. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and managing complex, high-traffic distributed systems, with a keen eye for optimizing resource utilization and enhancing developer experience. You will be expected to troubleshoot complex issues, propose innovative solutions, and play a crucial role in shaping the future of our technological landscape. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure platform infrastructure using cloud-native technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premise solutions.
- Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate provisioning and configuration.
- Establish and optimize Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to enable rapid and safe deployment of applications and infrastructure changes.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues across the entire stack, and implement proactive measures to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
- Collaborate with development teams to define infrastructure requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure optimal integration of applications with platform services.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in platform engineering, security, and operational excellence, including contributing to architectural decisions and technology evaluations.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong understanding and experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Solid scripting skills in languages like Python, Go, or Bash.
- Deep knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator Associate).
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices architectures, and API design.
- Familiarity with network configuration, security best practices, and access management.
