Job Description

SIMBA Supermarket Rwanda is actively seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Shop Assistant to join our thriving team in Nyabihu. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for our valued customers, embodying the friendly and helpful spirit of SIMBA. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse and engaging, ranging from warmly greeting shoppers and expertly guiding them through our product offerings, to efficiently managing point-of-sale transactions and ensuring our shelves are always well-stocked and impeccably presented. This position is fundamental to maintaining our store’s reputation for high standards of service, operational efficiency, and a pristine shopping environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers warmly and assist them in locating products and making selections.
  • Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Handle cash, credit, and mobile money transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies.
  • Replenish shelves, maintain stock levels, and ensure products are correctly priced and displayed.
  • Receive and unpack deliveries, check for quality and quantity, and store items appropriately.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sales floor, stockroom, and checkout areas.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints professionally, escalating issues to management when necessary.
  • Promote special offers, discounts, and loyalty programs to customers.
  • Assist with inventory counts and stock audits as required.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve daily sales targets and operational goals.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic mathematical skills for handling transactions and counting change.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and stock management.
  • Proactive and results-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail, customer service, or hospitality role.
  • Knowledge of POS systems and inventory management software.
  • Familiarity with SIMBA Supermarket products and services.
  • Secondary school certificate or equivalent.
  • Basic computer literacy.
