Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Signalling Technician to join our growing team, playing a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing railway infrastructure within the University of Passau Area and beyond. As a Signalling Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of complex signalling systems that underpin Germany’s advanced rail network. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of various signalling assets, including points machines, track circuits, level crossing equipment, signals, and interlocking systems. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of railway signalling systems and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards.
- Diagnose and rectify faults promptly on critical assets such as points machines, track circuits, axle counters, signals, and complex interlocking systems.
- Install, test, and commission new signalling equipment and system modifications in strict accordance with railway engineering standards and project specifications.
- Conduct thorough preventative maintenance activities to ensure optimal system performance, extend asset lifespan, and minimize operational downtime.
- Adhere strictly to all railway safety regulations, operational procedures, environmental guidelines, and quality assurance protocols.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and commissioning activities performed, utilizing digital systems where applicable.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders on system upgrades, new infrastructure installations, and ongoing operational improvements.
- Participate in structured on-call rotations to provide rapid response and resolution for critical incidents and urgent maintenance requirements.
- Utilize specialized testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and software to identify and resolve complex technical issues within signalling circuits and systems.
- Provide technical support, mentorship, and guidance to junior technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in railway signalling installation, maintenance, and fault finding.
- Strong understanding of electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering principles applied to railway systems.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using specialized testing and diagnostic equipment for signalling systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Unwavering commitment to safety and strict adherence to operational procedures in a high-risk environment.
- Valid driver's license (Class B or equivalent) for travel to various site locations.
- Fluency in German (C1 level minimum) for effective technical communication, documentation, and safety briefings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational qualification or a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience with specific interlocking systems (e.g., Siemens, Alstom, Thales) and other signalling technologies common in German rail networks.
- In-depth knowledge of European railway standards (e.g., CENELEC, ERA) and local German regulations (EBO, BOStrab).
- Prior experience working in a highly regulated industry or a safety-critical transportation environment.
- Certification in railway specific safety courses or specialized signalling training.
