Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and dedicated Site Safety Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Mutare, Manicaland Province. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive oversight and rigorous enforcement of health and safety protocols across our operational sites, including our expansive tea estates, modern processing plants, and associated logistical facilities. The Site Safety Supervisor will be instrumental in cultivating and sustaining a robust, proactive safety culture throughout the organization, ensuring that all activities adhere strictly to established safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Your primary responsibilities will include the meticulous identification of potential hazards, conducting thorough and systematic risk assessments, and the proactive implementation of preventative measures to mitigate risks. You will also be responsible for ensuring unwavering compliance with national Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and company-specific policies. This role demands a proactive individual with exceptional leadership qualities, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and an unwavering passion for workplace safety. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in managing safety within a large-scale agricultural, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment, demonstrating the ability to effectively train diverse staff, meticulously investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance. You will be expected to collaborate closely and effectively with site management, departmental heads, and employees at all levels, acting as a champion for safety initiatives and ensuring a secure and productive working environment for everyone. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and rigorously monitor site-specific safety plans and procedures in strict alignment with company policy, national regulations, and international best practices.
  • Conduct frequent, thorough site inspections and comprehensive safety audits to proactively identify potential hazards, address non-compliance issues, and pinpoint areas for continuous improvement.
  • Lead, organize, and facilitate engaging and effective safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring widespread awareness and diligent adherence to safety protocols.
  • Meticulously investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, accurately determining root causes and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure the proper selection, use, maintenance, and readily available supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all operational sites.
  • Develop, review, and manage robust emergency response plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring high levels of preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to site management on all safety-related matters, including regulatory changes, technological advancements, and emerging best practices in OHS.
  • Actively promote and embed a positive safety culture through continuous engagement, recognition programs, and fostering open, transparent communication channels.
  • Collaborate effectively with external regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role, preferably in a large-scale agricultural, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of national OHS legislation and regulations (e.g., NSSA regulations in Zimbabwe) and ability to ensure compliance.
  • Strong proficiency in conducting detailed risk assessments, hazard identification, and thorough incident investigations.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and effective team management capabilities, including motivating and guiding staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license with at least 2 years of driving experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a closely related technical field.
  • Recognized international safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, or equivalent local certifications).
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 or other international safety management systems.
  • Certified in First Aid and Fire Safety.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and Shona/Ndebele) is considered a distinct advantage.
