Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Butcher to join our vibrant team in Triolet, Pamplemousses District. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled butchery tasks including cutting, trimming, deboning, grinding, and preparing various types of meat (beef, poultry, lamb, pork).
  • Ensure all meat products meet strict quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic work environment, adhering to all food safety and health regulations (HACCP principles).
  • Assist customers with meat selection, provide cooking recommendations, and process special orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage meat inventory, including receiving, storing, rotating stock, and minimizing waste.
  • Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and effectively, including grinders, slicers, and saws.
  • Package, label, and display meat products attractively for sale.
  • Monitor product freshness and discard expired or substandard items.
  • Contribute to a positive team atmosphere and support colleagues as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Butcher with exceptional knife handling skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of different meat cuts, meat preparation techniques, and carcass breakdown.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy cuts of meat.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification or certification in Butchery.
  • Experience with specialty cuts or preparing bespoke customer orders.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management software or systems.
  • Fluency in English and Mauritian Creole; French is a plus.
