Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pipefitter to join our dynamic team at our Dalny Mine operations in Kadoma, Mashonaland West Province. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems critical to our mining and processing operations. This role demands precision, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. As a Pipefitter at RioZim, you will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate materials, cutting, threading, bending, and assembling pipes, as well as performing various welding techniques to ensure leak-free and robust systems. Your expertise will directly impact the efficiency and safety of our water management, slurry transportation, and ventilation systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed isometric drawings to determine pipe layouts, materials, and procedures.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes of various materials (e.g., steel, PVC, copper) using hand and power tools.
  • Perform various welding techniques (e.g., arc, MIG, TIG) on piping systems, ensuring strong, leak-free joints.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam piping systems, including valves, pumps, and other components.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair existing piping systems to prevent or address leaks, blockages, or other malfunctions.
  • Conduct pressure testing on installed pipe systems to ensure integrity and compliance with safety standards.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate work and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior pipefitters or apprentices as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Pipefitter, preferably in a heavy industrial or mining environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in pipe cutting, threading, bending, and fitting techniques.
  • Demonstrable welding skills (e.g., Arc, MIG, TIG) with relevant certifications.
  • Strong understanding of various piping materials and their applications (e.g., steel, PVC, HDPE).
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and specialized pipefitting equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Artisan Certificate in Pipefitting, Boiler Making, or equivalent vocational qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the mining or heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Experience with advanced pipe fabrication and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance software and procedures.
  • First Aid certification.
