Job Description

Midlands Metals is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sheet Metal Worker to join our dynamic fabrication team in Gweru. This is an exciting opportunity for a meticulous and dedicated professional to contribute to the production of high-quality metal components and structures crucial for various industrial applications. As a Sheet Metal Worker, you will be responsible for the precise cutting, shaping, bending, and assembling of metal sheets according to detailed blueprints and specifications. Your work will involve utilizing a range of manual and automated machinery, ensuring all tasks are completed with accuracy, efficiency, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

We are looking for an individual with a strong understanding of metal properties, fabrication techniques, and quality control processes. You will be expected to interpret technical drawings, measure and mark out materials, and perform welding, riveting, or soldering as required. The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical drawings to determine project specifications and material requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and cut metal sheets, plates, and structural shapes using shears, power saws, lasers, and other specialized equipment.
  • Form and shape metal components using brakes, presses, bending rolls, and hand tools.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, performing adjustments or rework as necessary.
  • Assemble metal parts by welding, brazing, soldering, riveting, or bolting.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and metalworking machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and other production teams to optimize fabrication processes and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with material handling and inventory management as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Sheet Metal Worker or similar role.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in using manual and power tools common to sheet metal fabrication (e.g., shears, grinders, drills).
  • Experience with metal forming equipment (e.g., press brakes, roll forming machines).
  • Basic welding skills (MIG, TIG, Arc) are highly advantageous.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and measurement skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
  • Adherence to strict safety protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Artisan Certificate in Fabrication Engineering, Sheet Metal Work, or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC plasma cutters or laser cutting machines.
  • Knowledge of various metal types and their properties (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel).
  • Prior experience in an industrial manufacturing or mining supply environment.
  • Forklift operator's certificate.
