Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children, young people, and families to identify needs and risks.
- Develop, implement, and review child protection and care plans, ensuring adherence to statutory guidelines.
- Provide direct support, advice, and intervention to families experiencing a range of challenges, including neglect, abuse, and domestic violence.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including health, education, and police, to coordinate services and ensure holistic care.
- Manage a diverse caseload, prioritising effectively and maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records.
- Prepare high-quality reports and statements for various forums, including child protection conferences, Looked After Children (LAC) reviews, and court proceedings.
- Facilitate access to community resources and support networks for families and individuals.
- Participate in regular supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Respond effectively to safeguarding concerns, ensuring timely and appropriate actions are taken to protect children and young people.
- Promote anti-discriminatory practice and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of work.
Required Skills
- Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work degree (BA, BSc, MA in Social Work).
- Current registration with Social Work England (SWE).
- Demonstrable experience in children and family social work, including child protection and safeguarding.
- Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures (e.g., Children Act 1989/2004).
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and families.
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and work effectively under pressure.
- Proficiency in IT systems for case management and record-keeping.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-qualifying awards or advanced training in specific areas such as attachment, trauma-informed practice, or systemic family therapy.
- Experience working within a local authority setting in London.
- Knowledge of local community resources and networks in Streatham and surrounding areas.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car (desirable for community-based work).
