Job Description
Pro Sound & Light Systems is seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and dedicated Sound Engineer to join our dynamic team in Secunda, Mpumalanga. This pivotal role is designed for a technical maestro with a profound love for audio production, particularly within a professional studio recording environment. As our Sound Engineer, you will be the cornerstone of our audio recording projects, responsible for capturing, mixing, and mastering exceptional sound for a diverse range of clients and internal productions. Your expertise will extend significantly beyond merely operating mixing consoles. You will be instrumental in the meticulous setup, calibration, maintenance, and optimization of our state-of-the-art studio equipment, including microphones, preamps, converters, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and outboard gear. A critical aspect of this role involves proactive troubleshooting of technical issues, ensuring all systems are fully functional and prepared for seamless recording sessions at all times. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain professional audio recording equipment, including mixing consoles, microphones, and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
- Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot studio equipment to ensure optimal performance and sound quality.
- Record, mix, and master audio for various projects, including music, voice-overs, podcasts, and multimedia content.
- Collaborate with artists, producers, and clients to understand their vision and deliver high-quality audio productions.
- Perform sound editing, noise reduction, and audio restoration as required.
- Manage and organize audio files, session data, and backups in accordance with studio protocols.
- Stay updated with industry trends, software, and hardware advancements to enhance studio capabilities.
- Provide technical support during recording sessions and assist with post-production processes.
- Ensure the acoustic integrity of the studio environment and recommend improvements.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance on all audio gear and report any issues promptly.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Sound Engineer in a studio environment.
- Proficiency with industry-standard DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live).
- Expert knowledge of audio recording techniques, mixing, mastering, and signal processing.
- Strong understanding of acoustics, microphone theory, and signal flow.
- Demonstrable experience with audio hardware, including consoles, preamps, and outboard gear.
- Excellent critical listening skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and team collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under deadlines.
- A portfolio or demonstrable examples of previous sound engineering work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Sound Engineering, Audio Production, or a related field.
- Experience with live sound reinforcement in addition to studio work.
