Job Description
Sound Mind Entertainment is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Sound Technician to join our dynamic studio team. This on-site role is pivotal to the seamless operation of our recording and post-production facilities. As a Sound Technician specializing in audio setup, you will be responsible for the meticulous preparation, calibration, and maintenance of all studio equipment, ensuring optimal performance for every session. You will work closely with sound engineers, producers, and artists, providing crucial technical support from initial setup to final breakdown. This role demands a keen ear for detail, extensive knowledge of analog and digital audio systems, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, calibrate, and operate audio equipment including microphones, mixers, amplifiers, speakers, and recording devices for various studio sessions (recording, mixing, mastering).
- Perform pre-session equipment checks, ensuring all systems are fully functional and ready for use.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with audio equipment and software promptly to minimize downtime during sessions.
- Conduct regular maintenance, cleaning, and basic repairs of studio gear to ensure longevity and optimal performance.
- Assist sound engineers and producers with session setup, microphone placement, signal routing, and patch bay configurations.
- Maintain an organized inventory of audio equipment, cables, and accessories.
- Ensure the studio environment is clean, safe, and organized at all times.
- Stay updated with new audio technologies, software, and industry best practices to recommend upgrades and improvements.
- Provide technical support during live recording sessions and post-production processes, as needed.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in setting up and operating professional audio equipment (microphones, consoles, DAWs).
- Strong understanding of analog and digital audio signal flow and routing.
- Experience with major Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for audio hardware and software.
- Knowledge of acoustics and studio monitoring principles.
- Ability to perform basic soldering and cable repair.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced studio environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with creative teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Certifications from recognized audio schools or industry bodies (e.g., Avid Pro Tools Certification).
- Experience with large format mixing consoles (digital and analog).
- Familiarity with various microphone types and their optimal applications.
- Previous experience in a professional recording studio or post-production facility.
