Career.zycto is seeking a passionate and dedicated Sports Coach to join our vibrant Youth Program in Madaraka, Nairobi. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing sports activities for children and adolescents, fostering their physical development, teamwork, and leadership skills. As a Sports Coach, you will be instrumental in creating a positive, safe, and engaging environment where young participants can explore various sports, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for physical activity. We’re looking for an individual who can inspire, motivate, and mentor youth from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that every participant feels valued and has the opportunity to succeed.
Your day-to-day will involve hands-on coaching across multiple disciplines, adapting your approach to suit different age groups and skill levels. You will be responsible for lesson planning, conducting drills, organizing scrimmages, and leading team-building exercises. Beyond the physical aspects, this role carries a significant mentorship component; you will guide participants on principles of sportsmanship, respect, resilience, and healthy competition. You will also serve as a crucial point of contact for parents and guardians, providing updates on their child’s progress and addressing any concerns. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging sports curricula suitable for various age groups and skill levels within the youth program.
- Lead daily coaching sessions, drills, and team activities, ensuring a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of individual participants, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, adhering strictly to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding program updates, participant progress, and any concerns.
- Organize and supervise sports events, competitions, and recreational activities.
- Maintain sports equipment and facilities, ensuring they are in good working order and stored appropriately.
- Promote positive sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and healthy lifestyle choices among participants.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to program registration, attendance, and reporting.
- Collaborate with other coaches and program staff to enhance the overall youth development experience.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in coaching youth sports programs (minimum 2 years).
- Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate coaching techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and build rapport with children and adolescents.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute sports activities.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safety.
- Proficiency in English and Swahili (both written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Relevant coaching certifications from recognized sports federations.
- Experience working with diverse youth populations.
- Knowledge of multiple sports disciplines (e.g., football, basketball, athletics).
- Experience in conflict resolution and behavioral management with youth.
