Job Description
Standard Bank Group is seeking a dynamic and experienced Startup Manager to lead our new Innovation Hub initiatives in Klerksdorp, North West. This pivotal role is designed for an individual with a deep understanding of the startup ecosystem, a passion for fostering innovation, and a proven track record in program management and community building. As the Startup Manager, you will be at the forefront of identifying, nurturing, and scaling promising startups within the Klerksdorp region, contributing significantly to local economic development and Standard Bank’s broader innovation agenda. You will be responsible for creating a vibrant and supportive environment for entrepreneurs, providing strategic guidance, mentorship, and access to resources that can accelerate their growth.
This role demands a blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and strong interpersonal skills. You will work closely with internal Standard Bank teams, external partners, venture capitalists, government agencies, and educational institutions to build a robust network that benefits the startups in our hub. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage all operational aspects of the Innovation Hub, including program development, curriculum design, and event coordination.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard high-potential startups and entrepreneurs into the hub's various programs.
- Provide strategic mentorship, guidance, and coaching to startups on business model development, market entry, fundraising, and scaling strategies.
- Build and maintain a robust network of mentors, investors, industry experts, and strategic partners to support the startup ecosystem.
- Organise and facilitate workshops, hackathons, pitch events, and networking sessions to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor and report on the progress and impact of the startups within the hub, tracking key performance indicators and success metrics.
- Collaborate with internal Standard Bank stakeholders to integrate innovative solutions and explore potential partnerships with promising startups.
- Manage the hub's budget, resources, and administrative functions efficiently and effectively.
- Represent Standard Bank at relevant industry events, conferences, and community gatherings to promote the Innovation Hub.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in startup ecosystem management, incubation/acceleration programs, or venture capital.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, execution, and reporting on complex initiatives.
- Strong understanding of startup methodologies (e.g., Lean Startup, Agile) and business model canvases.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build and nurture professional networks within the entrepreneurial community.
- Experience in mentorship and advisory roles for early-stage companies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree (MBA) or relevant professional certifications.
- Prior experience as a founder or in a leadership role within a startup.
- Familiarity with the Klerksdorp/North West entrepreneurial landscape.
- Knowledge of financial services industry trends and fintech innovations.
