Career.zycto is actively seeking highly skilled and experienced Steel Fixers to join our network of construction professionals for ongoing and upcoming projects in and around Radford, Nottingham. As an Experienced Steel Fixer, you will be instrumental in laying the groundwork for major construction endeavours. Your expertise will ensure the strength and stability of concrete structures, from foundations to elevated slabs and intricate pre-cast elements. We are looking for individuals who can read and interpret complex engineering drawings, plans, and blueprints with ease, translating them into precise, high-quality steel frameworks on site. Safety is paramount in all our operations, and you will be expected to adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

This role demands not only technical proficiency but also the ability to work effectively within a team, coordinating with engineers, other trades, and site management to meet project deadlines and quality standards. You will be responsible for the accurate cutting, bending, and fixing of steel reinforcement bars (rebar) into position, using various tools and techniques, including tying wire, welding, and mechanical couplers, as required. Experience with different types of steel, rebar schedules, and formwork systems is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Cut, bend, and fix steel reinforcement bars (rebar) to form cages or frameworks.
  • Use various tools and equipment including rebar cutters, benders, tying wire, and welding equipment.
  • Ensure accurate placement and spacing of rebar as per structural designs.
  • Work safely and adhere to all site health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with site managers, engineers, and other construction trades.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Mentor less experienced team members if required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Steel Fixer on large-scale construction projects.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings and rebar schedules.
  • Expertise in cutting, bending, and fixing steel reinforcement bars accurately.
  • Strong understanding of various tying methods and mechanical couplers.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations within a construction environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CSCS card (Steel Fixer NVQ Level 2 or 3).
  • Relevant vocational qualifications or apprenticeships in steel fixing or construction.
  • Experience with specific rebar systems or pre-cast concrete structures.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Driving license with own transport.
