As a Steel Fixer, you will be instrumental in the assembly and erection of rebar cages, ensuring the structural integrity of concrete elements from foundations to elevated structures. You will interpret blueprints and schematics, accurately measure, cut, bend, and tie steel reinforcement bars (rebar) to specification. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of construction safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team on demanding sites. If you possess a keen eye for quality and are passionate about delivering robust, safe, and enduring structures, we encourage you to apply today and help lay the groundwork for Bristol’s future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings and blueprints to determine required rebar layout and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel reinforcement bars and mesh accurately using hand and power tools.
  • Assemble and erect rebar cages and frameworks, tying bars together with wire to specified tolerances.
  • Place and secure rebar in concrete forms, ensuring correct spacing and cover for concrete elements.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, company policies, and best practices on-site at all times.
  • Inspect own work and that of colleagues to ensure high-quality standards and structural compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with concrete placers, formwork carpenters, and other site personnel to maintain project timelines and quality.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Steel Fixer on various construction projects.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Competence in using a wide range of steel fixing tools and equipment (e.g., rebar cutters, benders, tying tools).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and stringent site safety procedures.
  • Excellent physical stamina, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, demanding construction environment.
  • Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Steel Fixing or a related construction discipline.
  • Experience with different types of reinforcement, including pre-fabricated cages and post-tensioning systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence for potential travel between sites.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly rate and reliable weekly pay.
  • Opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects that shape Bristol’s landscape.
  • Supportive team environment with experienced site managers and colleagues.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety with regular training and compliance checks.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training, skill development, and career progression within the construction sector.
