Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Store Cashier with a strong focus on Point of Sale (POS) operations and excellent customer service to join our dynamic team in Curepipe. As a Store Cashier, you will be the face of Winners Supermarket, responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient transactions, providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all shoppers, and upholding our commitment to customer satisfaction. This role requires precision in handling cash and electronic payments, proficiency in operating our POS system, and the ability to resolve customer inquiries with a positive attitude. Key Responsibilities
- Operate cash register and POS system to process customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Handle cash, credit/debit card payments, and other forms of tender, ensuring proper reconciliation at the end of each shift.
- Provide exceptional customer service, greeting customers warmly, answering questions, and assisting them with their shopping needs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting checkout area, ensuring all supplies are stocked.
- Perform price checks and assist customers with product information or location queries.
- Handle customer complaints or issues professionally and escalate to management when necessary.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to cash handling, security, and customer privacy.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient store operations and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Assist with bagging groceries and ensuring items are packed appropriately.
- Promote special offers, loyalty programs, and store promotions to customers.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating a Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Excellent numerical aptitude and ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) as a cashier or in a similar customer-facing role in retail.
- Knowledge of multiple languages spoken in Mauritius (e.g., English, French, Creole).
- High School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and learn new systems quickly.
