Key Responsibilities
- Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
- Handle cash, credit/debit card payments, and other forms of tender, ensuring proper reconciliation.
- Provide friendly, prompt, and courteous service to all customers, answering their queries patiently.
- Assist customers with product inquiries, locating items, and resolving minor issues or escalating complex ones to management.
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, including shelves and display units near the register.
- Accurately count and balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
- Scan items, apply discounts, and process returns or exchanges following strict company policies and procedures.
- Promote store loyalty programs, special offers, and promotional items to customers to enhance their shopping experience.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, including floor staff and supervisors, to ensure smooth store operations and customer flow.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and security policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a cashier or in a customer service role, preferably in a retail setting.
- Proficiency in operating Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and handling various payment methods.
- Excellent mathematical skills and meticulous attention to detail for accurate cash handling and transaction processing.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with diverse customers.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding retail environment.
- Customer-centric approach with a consistently positive, helpful, and professional attitude.
- Basic computer literacy for system operations and basic administrative tasks.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Familiarity with basic retail inventory management principles and stock rotation.
- Experience working specifically in a supermarket or a large retail setting.
- Ability to communicate fluently in both English and French (Mauritian Creole is a significant asset).
