Key Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping vehicles and associated equipment safely and efficiently to clear streets, gutters, and other designated areas of debris.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment, documenting any issues or maintenance needs.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or required repairs promptly to supervision.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies while operating vehicles on public roads.
- Load and unload debris collected during sweeping operations, ensuring proper disposal at designated sites.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of work performed, routes covered, and materials collected.
- Conduct minor routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding operational updates or concerns.
- Represent the company and municipal services professionally to the public.
- Work effectively in varying weather conditions, adapting to seasonal changes and operational demands.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to operate heavy equipment, preferably street sweepers or similar large vehicles.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and practices related to vehicle operation and waste management.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and reaching, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and identification of potential road hazards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for performing pre-trip inspections and minor maintenance.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
- Previous experience specifically operating street sweeping equipment.
- Familiarity with Grande Prairie's road network and geographical layout.
- Certification in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in a municipal or public works environment.
