Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Full-Time Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Portmore, Saint Catherine Parish. This pivotal role involves leading the structural design aspects of diverse construction projects, ensuring all designs comply with national and international building codes, standards, and best practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational understanding of structural engineering principles, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record in designing safe, efficient, and cost-effective structures. You will be instrumental in conceptualizing, developing, and reviewing structural plans for various building types, from residential and commercial developments to industrial facilities and infrastructure projects. This position demands a meticulous approach to problem-solving, a commitment to quality, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams. You will be responsible for translating architectural concepts into robust structural systems, performing detailed calculations, preparing comprehensive technical reports, and providing expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Your expertise will directly contribute to the successful realization of landmark projects that shape Jamaica’s built environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural analysis and design of various building and infrastructure projects using relevant software and manual calculation methods.
  • Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports in accordance with local and international building codes (e.g., IBC, ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes where applicable to Jamaican context).
  • Collaborate effectively with architects, M&E engineers, contractors, and clients to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, monitor construction progress, and ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform structural inspections and provide expert recommendations for modifications, repairs, or retrofits as needed.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources related to structural engineering deliverables.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Participate in business development activities, including preparing proposals and presentations for potential clients.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in structural engineering and construction materials.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in structural design and analysis of various building types.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit Structure).
  • Strong understanding of concrete, steel, timber, and masonry design principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant building codes and standards applicable in Jamaica.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or eligible for registration in Jamaica.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with seismic design and hurricane-resistant structural solutions.
  • Project management experience with a focus on engineering deliverables.
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflows.
  • Experience in value engineering and constructability reviews.
