Job Description

Winners Supermarket in Mer Rouge, Port Louis, is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Supermarket Staff to join our bustling team. This dual-role position encompasses both Cashier and Stock Associate responsibilities, offering a diverse and engaging work experience vital to the smooth operation of our store. As a key member of our frontline team, you will be the face of Winners, directly interacting with our valued customers while also ensuring our shelves are always fully stocked and appealing.
Your primary duties will revolve around providing swift, friendly, and accurate service at the checkout counters, handling transactions efficiently, and assisting customers with their inquiries to ensure a positive shopping journey. You will operate modern Point of Sale (POS) systems, process various payment methods, manage returns, and effectively communicate ongoing promotions. Beyond the register, you will play a crucial role behind the scenes as a Stock Associate. This involves receiving incoming goods, carefully unpacking and organizing merchandise, ensuring proper rotation to minimize waste, and meticulously stocking shelves to maintain a tidy, accessible, and attractive store environment. You will be responsible for checking expiry dates, assisting with inventory counts, and ensuring products are presented according to Winners’ high standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate cash registers and POS systems accurately and efficiently, processing various payment methods (cash, card, mobile payments).
- Greet customers warmly, answer questions, provide assistance, and ensure a positive checkout experience.
- Handle returns, exchanges, and resolve customer complaints with professionalism and a problem-solving attitude.
- Inform customers about current promotions, loyalty programs, and special offers.
- Receive, inspect, and unload incoming merchandise, verifying quantities against delivery notes.
- Unpack, price, and organize products onto shelves, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out) and neat presentation.
- Monitor stock levels, identify low stock items, and assist with inventory counts and stock replenishment.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of aisles, stockrooms, and checkout areas.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, especially concerning food handling and storage.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth store operations and achieve sales targets.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills for handling transactions and counting change.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift, bend, and carry merchandise up to 20kg.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, supermarket, or customer service role.
- High School Certificate (SC/HSC) or equivalent.
- Familiarity with POS systems.
