Career.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and certified Surf Instructors to join our dynamic team for an exciting seasonal opportunity in Kensington, London. While Kensington may not be famous for its waves, we partner with premier surf schools and water sports centres located just a short journey from the city, offering unique urban-adjacent coastal experiences. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and safe surf lessons for individuals and groups of varying skill levels and ages.
- Prioritize and strictly adhere to all water safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the well-being of all participants.
- Provide clear, encouraging, and constructive feedback to students to aid their skill development.
- Assess daily weather and sea conditions (tides, currents, swell) to determine suitability for lessons and make informed decisions.
- Maintain, inspect, and organize all surf equipment, including boards and wetsuits, to ensure they are in excellent working condition.
- Assist with the efficient setup and pack-down of equipment at various lesson locations.
- Foster a fun, positive, and inclusive learning atmosphere that motivates and inspires students.
- Be proficient in first aid and respond effectively to any medical or emergency situations as required.
- Educate participants on crucial aspects of ocean awareness, including rip currents, marine life, and environmental stewardship.
- Accurately manage booking schedules, student registration, and administrative tasks associated with lessons.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Surf Instructor, demonstrating effective teaching methods.
- Valid and current Surf Instructor certification (e.g., ISA Level 1 or equivalent).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification from a recognized authority.
- Strong swimming ability and advanced personal surfing skills.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse groups.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a valuable team member.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly adaptable to changing environmental conditions and schedules.
- Genuine passion for surfing and a strong desire to share knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ocean safety, local currents, tides, and basic meteorology relevant to surfing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional Lifeguard certification (e.g., Beach Lifeguard Qualification).
- Experience working specifically with children and diverse age groups in a water sports setting.
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish, German) is considered a valuable asset.
- Local knowledge of surfing spots and conditions in the UK, especially along the South-East coast.
- Previous experience in customer service or hospitality roles.
