Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Surgical Nurse to join our esteemed team, working within leading healthcare partners in the Green Acres area of Brandon. As a Surgical Nurse, you will be an integral part of the perioperative team, providing high-quality, patient-centred care through all phases of surgery: pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes during surgical procedures. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for surgical patients in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
  • Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies, ensuring sterility and functionality.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs, handling instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications, and document all aspects of care accurately and timely.
  • Provide comprehensive patient education regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and post-operative care instructions.
  • Manage and maintain patient airways, ventilation, and circulation during surgery under the direction of an anesthesiologist.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary surgical team to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including infection control protocols.
  • Respond to emergencies and changes in patient condition promptly and effectively.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain current knowledge and skills.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Manitoba (or eligible for licensure)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Nurse or in an Operating Room setting
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective teamwork
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CPN or equivalent)
  • Experience with various surgical specialties (e.g., orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac)
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems
