Career.zycto is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Survey Enumerators to join our team for critical field work initiatives in Muthaiga, Nairobi. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of our data collection efforts, interacting directly with community members and ensuring the integrity of our research. You will play a vital role in collecting essential information that informs policy, drives development, and helps shape the future.

As a Survey Enumerator, you will be responsible for conducting face-to-face interviews, administering questionnaires, and accurately recording responses using digital tools. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, a high degree of empathy, and a strong commitment to ethical data collection practices. You will work independently in designated areas while adhering strictly to project protocols and schedules. We are looking for individuals who are reliable, resilient, and possess a keen eye for detail, ensuring that every piece of data contributes to a robust and credible dataset. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face interviews with selected respondents in designated areas of Muthaiga, Nairobi.
  • Administer questionnaires accurately and impartially, ensuring all questions are asked as per script.
  • Record responses clearly and precisely using digital data collection tools (e.g., tablets, smartphones).
  • Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of all respondent information as per ethical guidelines.
  • Verify collected data for completeness and accuracy before submission to the team leader.
  • Adhere strictly to survey protocols, ethical guidelines, and data quality standards established for the project.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with respondents, addressing any questions or concerns professionally.
  • Attend all required training sessions, daily briefings, and debriefings promptly.
  • Report any challenges, issues, or unusual situations encountered in the field to the team leader promptly.
  • Manage time effectively to meet daily and weekly data collection targets and deadlines.
  • Maintain all assigned equipment in good working condition and report any malfunctions immediately.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording and verification.
  • Ability to read, understand, and precisely follow complex instructions and survey protocols.
  • Basic proficiency in using digital data collection tools (e.g., ODK, SurveyCTO, KoboToolbox).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field-based environment.
  • High level of integrity, honesty, and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili, both written and spoken, is essential.
  • Physical stamina and willingness to walk long distances and work in various weather conditions.
  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability to unexpected field situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) as a survey enumerator or in a similar field data collection role.
  • A diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Community Development, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the Muthaiga, Nairobi area and its local communities and cultural nuances.
  • Experience with community engagement or outreach programs.
  • Prior training in ethical research conduct or human subject protection.
