Key Responsibilities
- Conduct various types of land surveys, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/ACSM, subdivision, and construction staking.
- Operate and maintain a wide range of surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
- Perform complex mathematical calculations and field adjustments to ensure accuracy of measurements.
- Collect, record, and verify field data, ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
- Process survey data using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) and other specialized applications.
- Prepare clear and concise survey plats, maps, and reports, adhering to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Research property records, deeds, and historical survey data to establish property boundaries.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, clients, and other team members to meet project specifications and deadlines.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices in all fieldwork and office activities.
- Assist in the preparation of legal descriptions and other legal documents related to surveying projects.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating modern surveying equipment (total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors).
- Strong understanding of land surveying principles, practices, and legal aspects.
- Demonstrated experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) for data processing and drafting.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills for spatial computations.
- Ability to read and interpret complex maps, deeds, and legal descriptions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform fieldwork in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience with LiDAR technology or drone surveying.
- Familiarity with local Muncie/Indiana surveying regulations and permitting processes.
